The box: a normal size shoe box is fine but we encourage you to purchase the plastic Sterilite 6 quart box. You can get them most places for $1 and the children can use them to keep their things dry and even to carry water from the village well. Please, don't use larger boxes. It may seem generous but remember that the child before and the child after is going to get a normal size box. Better to do two normal boxes than to get carried away and make one extra large box.
Age categories are 2-4, 5-9, 10-14 Boy or Girl
Things to include: Tooth brush, tooth paste, dental floss, comb or brush and hair bands, bandaids, age appropriate toys, sun glasses, ball caps, stuffed animals, flash lights with extra batteries, pens, pencils, crayons, paper, coloring books, solar calculators. Have fun picking items for the kids and remember, these children, even the older ones, are not as fussy as our children. They have little to nothing and are very happy just to receive the simple things.
Shipping cost: You are encouraged to assist in the shipping cost for your box by including $7 each, cash or check placed inside on top of everything.
Things NOT to include: NOTHING LIQUID is allowed. No toys of a military nature, ie, toy soldiers, guns, knives, etc. Please, no used items. No meltable candy as in chocolate bars or chocolate coated bars, no food, no meds or vitamins. No glass or aerosol cans.
Personal Note: It has been said that many of these children feel un-loved and forgotten. A picture and a note of love and encouragement will mean so much to them. Just to let these children know that someone cared enough to send them a note and a gift can make a wonderful memory. If you include your address, occasionally a child may be able to write back. Place your note in the bottom of the box and they will find them.
